- Forwarding allows you to purchase from any Etsy USA shop, regardless of their international shipping policies.

Why Is It Hard to Buy from Etsy and Ship to Hungary Directly?
Etsy connects buyers with independent sellers around the world. However, shipping availability to Hungary varies widely between Etsy sellers. Many U.S. shops on Etsy don’t offer international delivery or restrict their shipping regions due to high costs, customs paperwork, or limited carrier options. Even when international shipping is available, it’s often:
- Expensive, with shipping cost from US to Hungary frequently exceeding the price of the product itself
- Limited to basic postal services, making tracking and reliability a concern
- Unavailable for your chosen items due to store or product restrictions
Buyers in Hungary may also face issues with:
- Shopper payment details not matching required U.S. billing information
- Etsy items not deliverable in Hungary due to materials, brand, or carrier restrictions
- Confusing or unclear customs/duty information at checkout
This can make the process for buying US Etsy products from Hungary frustrating and unpredictable. But a U.S.-based parcel forwarding service offers a reliable workaround.
What Hungarian Shoppers Need to Know About Etsy USA
Here’s what to keep in mind before you buy from Etsy and ship to Hungary:
- International shipping is not offered for every item or seller on Etsy. Always check at checkout, but know you can override direct shipping restrictions with forwarding.
- Some products, such as food, cosmetics, leather, or vintage goods, may have import restrictions in Hungary. Always review the latest customs info on the Hungarian Customs website.
- Etsy prices are shown in U.S. dollars by default. Be mindful of exchange rates and payment processing fees when paying from a Hungarian account.
- Hungarian VAT, customs duties, and entry fees may apply on arrival. The value threshold for duty-free imports into Hungary is subject to regular change—check current rates with Hungarian customs before ordering.
- Shipping cost and delivery time to Hungary will depend on whether you use direct Etsy shipping or a forwarding service.
Etsy Shipping Options to Hungary: What Works and What Doesn’t
Here’s how shipping from Etsy USA to Hungary usually breaks down:
- Direct Shipping: Only some Etsy sellers offer shipping to Hungary, and parcels may be sent by basic international mail with limited tracking. Shipping prices can be high, and delivery can take several weeks, especially around holidays or large sale events.
- Package Forwarding: Using a U.S. forwarding address (like the one provided by Global Shopaholics), you’re able to buy any item available to U.S. shoppers—no matter the seller’s shipping preferences. Forwarding also opens up access to shipping carriers like FedEx, DHL, UPS, and more, typically at lower rates with faster tracking compared to standard postal options.
- Assisted Purchase: If the Etsy shop does not accept non-U.S. billing addresses or cards, Global Shopaholics can buy the item on your behalf and forward it to Hungary.
- Package Consolidation: If you buy from multiple U.S. Etsy sellers (or combine with purchases from eBay, Amazon, or Walmart), you can ship everything together—often for much less than separate shipments.
Shipping Availability Can Vary
Remember, Etsy shipping availability may change anytime, not only due to seller settings but also:
- Product category (e.g., spray paints, batteries, items containing liquids, perfume, or live plants are often not deliverable internationally)
- Legal or import controls set by the U.S. or Hungarian authorities
- Service interruptions with global carriers or postal partners
- Events like Black Friday or Etsy sale events, which may delay order handling due to high volume
It always helps to check shipping options for each Etsy item just before you buy—and to have a reliable backup like a U.S. forwarding address.

Checklist: What to Confirm Before Placing Your Etsy Order
- Is the item legal to import into Hungary? (See Hungarian Customs restrictions.)
- Is it available from a U.S. Etsy seller? (Not all handmade or vintage items can be legally shipped internationally.)
- If direct shipping to Hungary isn’t available, can you enter a U.S. address?
- Are you able to pay with your Hungarian card? If not, request assisted purchase.
- Will combining with other purchases (from other U.S. stores like eBay or Walmart) make your total shipping even cheaper?
- Do you have your full Global Shopaholics U.S. address ready for use at checkout?
Common Pitfalls (and How to Avoid Them)
- Forgetting import limits: Know Hungary’s personal import thresholds. Declaring your shipment value accurately avoids delays and extra fees.
- Buying restricted items: Some goods (certain antiques, alcohol, seeds, cosmetics, or branded items) are not permitted for import into Hungary. Always check before you order.
- Not checking total landed costs: Always budget for VAT and, if over de minimis, possible customs duties. Shipping calculators can help you estimate these before you buy.
- Choosing a slow, untracked shipping method: It can be worth selecting express (DHL, FedEx, UPS) for valuable or time-sensitive Etsy orders.
