Why Is It Hard to Buy from Dicks Sporting Goods in Costa Rica?
Many Costa Rican sports fans, athletes, and outdoor enthusiasts search for ways to access the huge selection and exclusive deals offered by Dicks Sporting Goods. However, when they try to order directly from Dicks Sporting Goods’ website, they quickly find out that international shipping to Costa Rica isn’t available. The checkout process accepts only U.S. addresses, blocking international delivery at payment or shipping steps.
This limitation means that popular U.S.-exclusive shoes, apparel, sporting goods, and outdoor equipment aren’t directly accessible. As a result, Costa Rican customers start searching for solutions to ship sports gear from Dicks Sporting Goods to Costa Rica—ideally in a way that’s secure, reliable, and cost-effective.
What Costa Rican Shoppers Should Know Before Ordering
If you’re trying to buy from Dicks Sporting Goods and ship to Costa Rica, here are key things to know before you shop:
- Shipping Availability Changes: Not all items sold on Dickssportinggoods.com can be shipped, even within the U.S. Store pickup options, and third-party marketplace items are often unavailable for forwarding.
- Payment and Address Problems: International credit or debit cards may be declined due to billing address verification. Entering a U.S. shipping address (from a forwarding provider) helps at checkout, but payment matching is still required.
- Size and Weight of Gear: Bulky items like bikes, kayaks, or gym equipment cost more to ship internationally due to volume and weight. Apparel, shoes, and small fitness gear are much more affordable for shipping to Costa Rica.
- Costa Rica’s customs and import rules apply; shipments may be subject to taxes, duties, and inspections. Restricted sporting goods (e.g., aerosols, lithium batteries, knives, or firearms accessories) might not be eligible for international transport.
- Timing Your Purchase: U.S. sale events and seasonal discounts (like Black Friday or back-to-school) can lead to significant savings, but may also increase shipping times due to high order volumes.
Dicks Sporting Goods International Shipping to Costa Rica: Is It Available?
Currently, Dicks Sporting Goods does not offer a Dicks Sporting Goods delivery to Costa Rica or any international addresses. Their online store is designed for U.S. shoppers, which means:
- Checkout only recognizes U.S. domestic addresses (states, ZIP codes, and territories).
- No in-store pickup options for addresses outside the U.S.
- Most international cards are declined unless the billing address is U.S.-based.
- Some brands or 3rd party sellers on Dicks.com may have separate shipping policies/restrictions.
If you try to place an international order, you’ll typically receive an error or restriction during checkout.

Understanding Shipping Costs, Delivery, and Customs for Costa Rica
International shipping to Costa Rica from the US adds important considerations to your shopping experience. The total cost of getting your Dicks Sporting Goods order to your door includes:
- U.S. domestic shipping from Dicks Sporting Goods to your U.S. address (often free with sales or qualifying orders).
- International shipping cost from the U.S. to Costa Rica—based on package size, weight, and chosen delivery speed.
- Customs duties and taxes set by Costa Rican authorities—usually paid before or upon delivery.
- Service fees for package handling, storage (if needed), consolidation, and extra services from your forwarding provider.
To get an accurate estimate and compare courier rates, use the Global Shopaholics shipping calculator. Popular express services like DHL, FedEx, and UPS offer door-to-door delivery to Costa Rica—each with different prices, speeds, and tracking options. Economy services are available for more affordable parcel delivery to Costa Rica, though they may take longer than courier express.
How Customs and Import Taxes Work in Costa Rica
All shipped items entering Costa Rica must be declared and may be assessed for customs duties and VAT. When shipping sports gear, common taxes include:
- Import duty (varies by item type and customs code).
- 13% VAT on assessed item value (including shipping & insurance).
- Possible handling or administration fees if using courier services.
The precise amount depends on product category, package value, and the latest Costa Rican government policies—the Ministerio de Hacienda provides current tax info. Global Shopaholics helps you with accurate documentation, customs paperwork, and optional shipment splitting or consolidation should your value exceed duty-free minimums.
Shipping Restrictions and Important Considerations
While most apparel, footwear, and basic sporting equipment can be shipped from Dicks Sporting Goods to Costa Rica, some restrictions apply. Review these before you buy:
- Hazardous goods (aerosols, lithium batteries, flammable items) may not be accepted by couriers or customs.
- Some sports equipment (e.g., air rifles, knives, ammunition, or large exercise machines) may require special import permits or may be prohibited.
- Brand/trademark restrictions may block shipping of certain products outside the U.S. (Dickssportinggoods.com may flag these at checkout).
When in doubt, contact Global Shopaholics customer support or check the package forwarding FAQ to confirm your items can be shipped to Costa Rica.
