Why Can’t Shoppers in Botswana Buy Directly from Rockauto?
Rockauto is a popular online source for affordable and hard-to-find auto parts in the U.S., but many shoppers in Botswana discover that shipping directly from Rockauto to Botswana is not supported at checkout. This is because Rockauto has limited international shipping options and only serves select countries outside the U.S.
When you try to check out with a Botswana shipping address, Rockauto often shows an error or disables the checkout option. You may also face local credit card acceptance issues, high international shipping fees, or limited carrier choices when ordering from U.S. car parts stores in general.
Since auto parts are often bulky, heavy, or classified as restricted goods for export by couriers, the process can be even more complicated when shipping to Botswana. Not all U.S. stores accept Botswana-based payment methods, and even when they do, you may face trouble tracking orders across borders.
What Shoppers in Botswana Need to Know About Ordering Auto Parts from Rockauto
Ordering genuine or affordable auto parts from the U.S. is often far cheaper than buying locally in Botswana. Thanks to sites like Rockauto, you get access to a huge catalog of OEM and aftermarket parts, which may not be available from stores in Gaborone, Francistown, or Maun.
However, Botswana shoppers should keep these key points in mind when buying from Rockauto:
- Rockauto’s shipping options for Botswana are limited, so you’ll need a U.S. package forwarding address to complete your purchase.
- Part eligibility: Some items may be restricted for international export or require extra paperwork to ship to Botswana, such as airbags, batteries, or liquids.
- Customs duties and VAT: Botswana Revenue Service will charge duty, VAT, and possibly brokerage fees upon import (see Botswana Customs info).
- Shipping time, cost, and logistics: Costs vary depending on the part’s size, courier, and delivery speed. Expect to pay more for heavy parts like engines, transmissions, or brake rotors.
- Payment challenges: Sometimes, your Botswana-based debit or credit card may not be accepted by Rockauto. In those cases, you may need help from an assisted purchase service.
Are There Shipping Limitations, Product Restrictions, or Timing Issues?
Rockauto sells a vast range of car parts—including mechanical, electrical, suspension, and cosmetic items—but not all items are eligible for shipping to Botswana. Even U.S. couriers and freight forwarders may have restrictions for items like hazardous materials, airbag modules, vehicle batteries, chemicals or liquids, and extra-large auto parts (e.g., hoods, bumpers, beds).
Availability may change depending on your chosen item, Rockauto’s inventory, product origin (some third-party sellers), and carrier-specific rules. Sometimes, delivery can be delayed around U.S. sales events or holidays. Most forwarding companies, including Global Shopaholics, will help you confirm the eligibility of your items before shipping, and can often repack or consolidate items to help them qualify for international mail.
If you’re unsure about the export regulations for a specific auto part, check with your forwarding provider or review Botswana’s customs import rules before ordering.

Customs, Duties, and Botswana Import Rules for Auto Parts
Botswana Customs requires imported goods to be declared at the border, and you’ll need to pay applicable import duty and value-added tax (VAT). Auto parts may be classified under various tariff codes; some are duty-free, while others attract moderate import duty and VAT, calculated on the shipment’s declared value plus shipping cost (see official BURS page).
- For private, personal shipments, simplified customs procedures usually apply.
- Always declare the actual price paid and keep your Rockauto invoice ready for customs review.
- Certain items (e.g., airbags, chemicals, batteries) may need import permits or are prohibited; check before shipping.
- Importers are responsible for settling any duty, VAT, and clearance fees charged by the Botswana Revenue Service or the courier.
If you’re importing for business or resale, more documentation may be required. When in doubt, ask your forwarding provider or consult Botswana’s online resources.
